Bottled water is rarely necessary. I was drinking the tap water in Dar es Salaam and although there were little bits of stuff in it and it was a funny colour I experienced no ill side effects. As a matter of fact it tasted really great with my hangover.

If you are worried about the quality of your water be a good sheep and do what I do : buy a decent water bottle (because as we know the reuse of cheap plastic bottles causes chemical discharge into the water, the thinner the bottle the worse the discharge) and a water filter. Then filter the tap water to your heart's content :-) As usual, this solution does not apply to "good-n-lazy" consumers.

As an added bonus, a good water filter will reduce flouride quantities in tap water to below detectible levels :-)
